Uddipappu Murukulu
Andhra-style urad-dal muruku — pressed by hand, fried to a deep crackle.
Uddipappu Murukulu (urad dal muruku) is the bestseller in our savouries shelf and the snack we make the most of every week. The base is fresh urad dal flour mixed with rice flour, ghee, ajwain, sesame seeds, and salt — pressed through a brass muruku press into hot oil and fried until the pieces sit at that perfect deep-amber crackle. Made fresh weekly in our RMV 2nd Stage kitchen, by hand, in batches small enough that we can keep an eye on every press. No factory machinery, no edible colour, no preservatives — when you bite one you can taste both the dal and the ghee. ₹360 per kg gives you roughly 8-10 cups of muruku, easily 3-4 weeks of tea-time for a small household. Best stored in a tin (not a plastic box — the muruku breathes and stays crisper). Pairs with filter coffee, masala chai, and the universal South Indian afternoon. Customers regularly order it alongside our Cheniginjallu Muruku (peanut version) and Ribbon Muruku for variety in a Diwali hamper. If you want the longer unbroken pieces specifically (the kind you'd put on a serving plate rather than break into a snack bowl), see our Uddipappu Murukulu — Unbroken at ₹400/kg.
